Island of Ugljan is situated only 20 minutes sail from Zadar town, near National park of Kornati Islands. An Olive island with one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes and picturesque fishing villages will provide you, your family and friends unforgettable vacations and magical moments of life. The island of Ugljan is also called the Green Island because it is covered with dense evergreen underbrush, pine forest, olives, fig trees, grapevines and other typical Mediterranean plants.
This island is one of the most connected islands with mainland in Croatia. It has a regular ferry line each hour. The South side of the island is connected with island of Pasman by bridge. Visitors, who prefer active vacations, can really enjoy in what Green Island has to offer. The island of Ugljan offers the greatest cycling paths in whole Croatia. Paths are marked and traced and offer a chance to learn about cultural heritage and natural resources. Also on the island are plenty hill footpaths, the ground is rocky, cracked and uneven. Fishing, hunting, scuba diving, sailing and many other activities are done on the island on daily basis. International Trekking Race Croatia called “Skraping” is held every year and it very famous event on the island. Hunting season lasts from 1st October till 31st January and during that period it is allowed to hunt for: hares, pheasants, pigeons, rabbits and quails.
The island has seven main villages or small towns, from which the largest is Ugljan made of nine idyllic parts (Guduce, Muline, Ceprljanda, Lucino selo, Batalaza, Susica, Gornje Selo, Fortostina and Varos). Main ferry port is Preko and other interesting villages of the island are: Kali, Kukuljica, Sutomiscica, Lukoran and Poljana.
About 1000 inhabitants live here, and they are mainly occupied with agriculture, fishery and tourism.
